If you reward people because of who they are instead of what they've done, others will transform who they are to what you like to the detriment of what you need

What makes you likable to the people can destroy your organization if, at the expense of being liked, you won’t confront what needs to be confronted

You have to constantly ask yourself: "Do people get what I advertised when they get me or is my advertisement better than my reality?"
